A circular itinerary in the Montalbano area suitable for everyone, with two starting points in the municipalities of Quarrata and Carmignano.

The Itineraries of the Springs are a series of hiking proposals in the Montalbano area, aimed at rediscovering historical springs and waterways that have played an important role in this territory over the centuries.

The Furba Ring unfolds between Tizzana and Seano, also passing through other localities such as Spazzavento and Capezzana. The itinerary takes its name from the Furba stream, which is followed along part of the route.

Mostly following secondary paved roads, this ring can be completed in a few hours and presents no particular difficulty, making it suitable for people of all ages and not requiring specific hiking skills. It is ideal for a day walk, allowing time to enjoy scenic viewpoints and discover the area’s typical products. The route passes by, or near, several important farms, especially wineries, such as the historic Tenuta di Capezzana and Cantina Pratesi.

There are two starting points for the loop, located in the municipalities of Quarrata and Carmignano. The first parking area is in Piazza della Chiesa in Tizzana, a hamlet of Quarrata; the second is at the parking lot of the Quinto Martini Park Museum, on Via Pistoiese in Seano, a hamlet of Carmignano.

The route was developed by the Municipality of Quarrata and the Municipality of Carmignano, in collaboration with the Ecoistituto delle Cerbaie.

TAPPA 1

Montalbano

The Montalbano is a mountain range characterized by a system of hills adjacent and degrading with slopes rather gentle up to the plains that surround it. However, there are many rather steep descents. The area covers 16,000 hectares between the provinces of Florence, Pistoia, and Prato. It is located in a strategic position, between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Tuscan Emilian Apennines, not far from the art cities of Florence, Pisa, Lucca. The landscape is dominated by the cultivation of vines, in the terraces and in the plains, and olive trees, on the slopes. Chestnut woods cover the peaks.
