Documents providing evidence, going back to the 12th century, show that the Church of Santo Stefano was built alongside the Panciatichi family's ancient fortalice.

In the tiny hamlet of Lucciano, on Montalbano’s slopes, stands the Church of Santo Stefano, dating back
to 1132.

The original Romanesque church once stood within the boundary of the Panciatichi family’s ancient fortalice, and its structure remained unaltered until the late 18th century.

Now the Church displays elegant Late Baroque features. Further renovation was carried out at the beginning of the 19th century.

Inside the Church is held Antonio Puglieschi’s ‘Martyrdom of Santo Stefano’ and the ‘Annunciation of the Virgin Mary’ which is a copy of the revered ‘Santissima Annunciata’ – the Most Holy Annunciation – to be found in Florence.
